How ancient words speak to me today.
Last night as I was trying to absorb the unfolding results of the election, I found myself drawn to these words from the Hebrew prophet Habakkuk:
Though the fig tree does not blossom,
and no fruit is on the vines;
though the produce of the olive fails,
and the fields yield no food;
though the flock is cut off from the fold,
and there is no herd in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
I will exult in the God of my salvation.
God, the Lord, is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a deer,
and makes me tread upon the heights. (Habakkuk 3:17-19)
It always amazes me how the ancient words of the Bible have a power to speak to the existential realities of our todays.
Gordon, how about Psalm 46? I read it and thought – exactly! It hit the spot. I am really despondent over the future, and aching for Scott, who was in New York with Tim and Anne. Judy
